The idea of fitness is more than just getting in shape.
Fitness is maximizing physical conditioning and improving
health. Proper fitness is made up of a three tiered
approach to improve health by cardiovascular training,
muscle strengthening and proper nutrition. An individual
trainging program can be designed in time, but when just
starting out a few sessions with a personal trainer would
be a good idea just to get the hang of fitness training.

A typical fitness regime includes at least thirty minutes
of cardiovascular training, five to six days a week. An
exercise is considered to be cardio only is the pulse rate
in kept within a certain target zone. Essentially you are
increasing your fitness if your are not rendered breathless
but are working hard enough that you can't chat while you
work out. These fitness workouts are not designed to
exhaust you; they are designed to build your overall
strength gradually.

Two or three times a week, most fitness programs call for
muscle group training. These exercises utilize resistance
training to build muscles mass. The muscles are worked out
in groups, beginning with the largest muscles in each group
and working up to the smallest. One day a fitness program
might call for leg exercises and then the next the program
usually alternates to the upper body, or the back.

The final aspect of fitness training is the nutritional
component. In order to keep the body hydrated, water is
crucial to the fitness process during and after workouts.
In order for any fitness goals to be achieved, protein is
essential to diet. Protein is used to build muscle mass.
Muscle mass increases the metabolism and the speed at which
the body burns fat. What food is eaten before a workout can
significantly vary the results of a workout. Breakfasts
that include protein allows the body to workout longer and
harder before beginning to feel fatigued.

Although some people carry a fitness regime to the extreme,
fitness is designed to be a healthy activity. Taken in it's
most general term; the proper fitness will tone and
strengthen the entire body. Many gyms will administer a
fitness test. These tests measure body fat, endurance,
strength and flexibility. If working out regularly and
keeping workouts balanced dramatic improvement will be seen
in fitness tests results in a relatively short time.
Clearly fitness is an all over approach to physical well
being.
